RIBA Stage 1—6
St Mary’s Mews is a nine unit development in Hanwell, West London.
Obtaining full planning consent in late 2017, the project started on site in late summer 2018, and is due for completion in late 2019. The long, thin nature of the site, posed the design team the question, of how best to provide density to the site, while also forming a community. The answer was to orientate the development perpendicular to the Uxbridge Road, forming a Mews development. Massing was softened through stepping, terraces and balconies. An internal courtyard mediates between the two blocks, forming a space where informal meetings can take place. Units range between 55m2 and 100m2, one and two bedroom, single floor and duplex. KAA have acted as lead consultants from pre-application, through planning, tender and construction utilising a traditional construction contract.
