Architecture For (the) Reasonably Ordinary – Prototype House 1.
As Berthold Lubetkin said, ‘nothing is too good for ordinary people.’
A.F.R.O. house is a concept house type that uses modular construction to satisfy high housing need with quality manufacturing and great design. inspired by the garden cities movement it proposes affordable housing in a flexible, scalable way to meet local demand.
Modular construction allows interchangeable layouts to support residents needs with open or closed plan living spaces, single or double bedrooms and en-suite bathroom provision. designed for greenfield sites with densities around 50 dwellings per hectare, A.F.R.O. house focuses on a type of development usually reserved for volume housebuilders.
With the quality that can be achieved using offsite construction, environmental standards can be driven up reducing carbon emissions and fuel bills. with the ‘biscuit’ façade A.F.R.O. house can respond to different local areas, developing thoughtful responses to local places.
